The Crew

CALISTO is managed by Philippe Cathala and his professional crew of 8. From deck to service, each crew member has carefully been chosen to build on a strong team.


Captain Philippe comes from France and joined CALISTO in 2008. He was in charge of refitting and rebuilding systems. His passion for CALISTO is evidenced by the care and maintenance of the boat. His attention to detail allows him to create a most memorable stay for all passengers and guests on-board. His abilities to coach, guide and motivate his crewmembers allow him to continuously affects his passengers. An experienced seaman who lived and sailed the Andaman Sea since 1985, Philippe is a licensed IMO Yacht master and PADI Dive master. He has plotted and sailed the waters of Thailand, Andaman Islands, Mergui Archipelago in Myanmar, Langkawi and Penang Islands. He has also sailed Siak River Pakien Baru, Sumatra East and the Banka Straits. Philippe is fluent in English, French and Thai.


Arnaud the Maître D was born in west-central France, in the Pays De La Loire region famous for wine and castles. His passion for the sea came from his grandfather with whom he learnt to sail during summer times on the Atlantic coast of France. It is no coincidence Arnaud’s brother is also a crew-member on-board a merchant navy ship. Discovering the world of hospitality by travelling across Continents, Arnaud has earned a Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management at the Glion Institute in Switzerland. He then specialised in the Food & Beverage world, working for International 5 Stars brands like Kempinski and Sofitel. On board to CALISTO, Arnaud will ensure guests are well taken care with excellent service using his combined experiences in hospitality and food & beverage. When not on-board, Arnaud likes to run early in the morning, he also likes Rugby and Judo that he used to practice for years.


Hai, Executive Chef of CALISTO, is a Hue native. Hue, the ancient and imperial capital of Vietnam, is also known as the culinary capital of Vietnam. A first class chef from the Hue Tourism College. Chef Hai has been working for over ten years at La Residence Hue Hotel & Spa, MGallery Collections (ACCOR), and an international award-winning hotel. He is passionate about French gastronomy and has always followed his passion through every signature dish at “Le Parfum”, the hotel’s restaurant.


Ying joined CALISTO in 2013, holding the position of 2nd Stewardess. A mother of two lovely children, she believes that she is born to be in the service industry. She derives satisfaction when she sees her charterer and guests are pleasantly surprised and leave with the feeling they just had the best vacation experience ever. Ever since, she always loves to help out and assist her teammates wherever she works. And on a yacht, she could just do that and in fact, she takes on the role of “home-cook” for all when the yacht is on maintenance or dry dock.


CALISTO’s massage therapist is a Thai national, born and raised in Nakhon Si Thammarat, a city in the South of Thailand. Over the last 20 years, Nawarat has soothed the joints of many, using various massage techniques she accumulated over the years. While she is well versed in all forms of Thai and traditional massages, she is best known for her acute understanding use of aromatic oils. On the boat, when she is not soothing the muscles or releasing the stress of tensed muscles, she helps out in the housekeeping department. Well liked by her customers and colleagues, Nawarat plays a critical part in elevating the cruise experience.


Sutin is experienced marine engineer having first joined the industry in 1990. Sutin is an experienced marine seaman having first joined the industry in 1990. Sutin joined CALISTO in 2010 and was involved with the refitting and renovations of the boat is also an excellent Marine carpenter. After all these years, he remains committed and continues to look after the boat, taking pride in a well maintained boat, providing a comfortable and safe journey for crew members and guests. Highly skilled, Sutin is pleasant and friendly, attentive and tactful. Sutin loves sea watching and marvels at the vastness of the ocean and beyond. During his free time, he spends time with the family members and friends, enjoying his favourite local street fares. He is fluent in English and Thai.


Since 1999, Chuan has worked on several motor yachts. He has served as Engineer on board CALISTO since 2009. Well liked by his crewmembers, Chuan is hard working and a great team player. Besides playing a critical role in keeping CALISTO in top-notch conditions, Chuan is also willing to lend his hands to other crew members when needed. He is unassuming and humble, preferring to coach and share his experiences with younger crewmembers. He is also an avid sea lover, watching and listing to the seas. During his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family members and friends enjoying home cooked meals. He speaks Thai and Basic English.


Mat has sailed with CALISTO since 2008. Serving as the boat’s second deck hand and tender captain, Mat is born in Thailand and has an extremely positive sailing attitude. He enjoys spending time with passengers and guests who have adventurous spirits and is also well trained in surface diving rules. He is caring and attentive towards passengers and takes the safety of all passengers seriously. He loves diving and exploring the underwater world. He loves spending time with his friends and family members when he’s not at sea. He speaks Thai and Basic English.


Sam, an inspiring seaman, has worked with CALISTO since 2000 as Deckhand & Tender Captain. Also an excellent carpenter, Sam has extensive technical knowledge of boats including sports’ fishing boats. Sam is well liked by crewmembers for he is always willing to lend a helping hand when necessary. He loves the excitement of the seas and the adrenalin that comes with managing a sporting fishing boat. He enjoys learning about different cultures and unsurprisingly fishing in his free time. He speaks Thai and Basic English.
